Public real estate policy plan Flanders Region
The Flanders Government approved in 2013 a global real estate policy for all the buildings, infrastructure and non-built plots in its portfolio. Objective is to use the public authority’s properties actively as a strategic asset for its core businesses and general welfare of the Flemish society.
It is striving due diligence to its corporate real estate and the highest possible social return while focusing on both a financial return and an exemplary role in the area of sustainability, innovation and quality. Cooperation between different entities within the Flanders Government should eventually lead to common qualitative standards, norms, objectives, benchmarking, transparent reporting and good practice.
A set of instruments was developed: a general Real Estate Forum (Vastgoedforum) consisting of a network and information meeting, three times a year; an internal real estate market; a global database of all government buildings with their specific assets; a manual with criteria for a sustainable housing of civil servants entre alli. Joris Scheers was the general patrimonial policy manager for the 2007-2013 period.
